So they are not completely home made but it’s close enough (^_^)
Not really sure how the commercial bread crumbs are made but one day I realised that I was throwing away a lot of bread. The end pieces of the loafs would just collect because no one wanted to eat them, then they’d get mouldy and get thrown out. What a waste! I went through a season where I would eat them just for the sake of not throwing them out, then a light bulb went off! I could collect them, dry them, and make breadcrumbs! So I did, and it worked out great!
You will need to collect about 6 of them or so to get enough crumbs to do something with. Place then in a baking tray in the oven for about 10 min. That should be enough to dry them out. Then let them cool, break with your hands to small pieces as possible.
Put the pieces in a clear bag, hold it loosely on the open end to allow air out but not the crumbs. Then using something with a flat or round surface, pound on the bread, semi-gently, hard enough to crush the pieces but not tear the bag.
Then once they’re as small as you can get them, grind them down further in a kinu (do it in portions)
and voila!
Quite simple, nothing spectacular! (^_^)
Have you ever made breadcrumbs before? How did you do it?
I always make my own breadcrumbs. I use a method that my mum showed me. I first toast the bread to get it hardener then i cut it up and chunks and use the mill for the blender to get it into crumbs.
woman after my own heart 🙂 i collected a lot of bread crust on the weekend and was going to make crumbs but got lazy, read that i can freeze the bread and do it later so ill do that soon.
Oh this is awesome!! Glad other people are doing this. I like the toaster idea Gatuiri, faster than waiting for the oven to warm up,…
