Sweet purple cabbage salad

2 / 27 / 152 / 19 / 16

Just look at those colours! Have you ever had purple cabbage? I had it for the first time two years ago. It was a catered lunch at the office. One of the dishes was a simple coleslaw made with purple cabbage and a sprinkle of pine nuts. It was delish. I can’t say the purple cabbage tastes any different from the regular green one but it makes such a huge difference when food just looks good and appetising.

Raisins with raw almonds and cashews

1 / 21 / 137 / 8 / 15

So I’ve been looking for healthy snacks lately, ones that I can make at home. Hubby likes to snack a lot so he buys a lot of pastries. I would like us to start taking some healthy stuff too when we snack.

Risotto from leftovers

5 / 25 / 126 / 19 / 15

Risotto is usually rice cooked in a stock with several ingredients. Every time I do something like that I tend to burn though, so i think this is a great workaround…

Oatmeal raisin cookies

12 / 12 / 115 / 19 / 15

This is the first time I’m making cookies since I was in high school! There’s a recipe my mother has that was super easy (no, this is not that one), I would prepare the dough and store it in the fridge, then roll it out in portions every morning to make a fresh batch for snacktime for me and my siblings. But that was a long time ago…

Cake for the Maasai Morans

I was so glad when he asked me to bake the cake. He could have just bought one somewhere, but he asked me to make one.

Lamb curry and rice

10 / 28 / 115 / 13 / 15

I pulled out what I thought was a meaty thigh piece to defrost but it turned out to be a back bone piece. Not a lot of meat. It was quite a task to get it off the bones!

Lemon cake

10 / 21 / 114 / 21 / 15

I think the best recipes out there are the ones that have been tested by time, they get passed on from generation to generation over centuries. I don’t have anything like that in my family but I hope yo one day come up with something worth passing on.

Banana-raisin cake

10 / 17 / 114 / 20 / 15

Adding raisins is an easy way to freshen up an old cake recipe. If you have a recipe that you make often and you just want to change things up a bit, throw in a handful of raisins. I do reccomend soaking them in something ahead of time, even if it’s not alcohol, I might even steam them a little, just so they’re not so dry.

A case for drunken raisins. A little experimenting with some raisins and rum.
