Wanjiru wa Drew: Sausage mishkaki / skewers

5 / 19 / 155 / 19 / 15

If you’re looking for quick and easy to do this is it! I remember as a kid my mother would give us tasks in the kitchen to help with preparation, most a specially when we were hosting. I can just imagine her instructing to prepare these — that’s how simple they are. But don’t let the simplicity fool you, they are very tasty.

Oxtail stew

2 / 19 / 147 / 20 / 15

Oxtail! I’ve discovered that not many people eat oxtail. When I was growing up it was a regular meal in our house, some of tastiest meat you eat when cooked right. It’s one of my favourite cuts, right up there with t-bone steaks and ossobuco.

Pesto meatballs, pasta and spinach

8 / 27 / 137 / 11 / 15

Meat balls are a great item to cook and store for later use. When you make them, make more than you need then store the extra in the freezer, bagged in your preferred portions per meal. Had some extra ones stored away, here is how I used them…

Yellow rice and mince

8 / 20 / 137 / 11 / 15

For this meal I was going for something easy, aromatic and colourful. The easy and aromatic came through nicely, but the colour was a flop! It was still good to eat though (^_^)

Dill meatballs

8 / 13 / 127 / 7 / 15

Dill is not a herb I use, in fact I think this is the first batch I’v ever purchased. So far I’ve tried them in an omelette, I think that went well. When I was ready to do these meatballs it seemed like a good idea use the dill here too…

Meatball sandwich

The first time I had a meatball sandwich was in 2003! Yes, I remember, because it was that good. To this day I remember the taste. Here is my go at it…

Sausage stir-fry

10 / 15 / 114 / 25 / 15

Sausages have been a breakfast favourite ever since I was a child. I don’t remember them being served any other way other than plain pan/deep fried. But it doesn’t have to always be that way, after all it’s meat (yes, with lots of other stuff in it but…) and that makes it good for cooking many other ways.

Try this version next time you have them for breakfast.
